Happy Easter – Easter on Parade 2016
My sister-in-law recalled an Easter event she once attended in Richmond, Virginia and asked if we might be interested in going. We modified our original Easter Sunday plans from an Easter egg hunt and dinner at our home to going over to their neighborhood to hunt for eggs at their home over lunch, and then all go to the Easter On Parade event together. When she first told me about it, I looked it up online and was instantly sold on the idea. I noticed that the parade from past years included people and their pets dressed up in bright colors and adorning crazy Easter themed hats. I immediately switched my browser to Amazon (affliate link) to order supplies to make our own. It was really the first time that I truly appreciated having an Amazon Prime account for the two day delivery! I had everything that I needed by Friday afternoon. My husband had taken the children to visit his father, Grandpa, early Saturday morning and I started making hats for us to wear.
I had ordered cheap yellow plastic party hard hats, 5 packs of Peeps Bunnies in different colors and a bunch of small pastel colored plastic eggs. I glued everything on to the plastic hats with a glue gun with my only rule being that each hat had its own color scheme.
I’m so happy that we decided to go with my SIL’s plan. Not only did she make a wonderfully delicious lunch spread for us, complete with dessert and baked goods from scratch, but my step-dad was also able to join us there for lunch as well. My favorites were the chicken salad croissants, perfectly seasoned mushrooms, spicy BBQ meatballs and asparagus (both are not pictured). After lunch, we headed outside to watch the children play and search for eggs in the Easter egg hunt that my brother had set up in his backyard. My baby nephew found his very first Easter egg with the help of his parents.
It was drizzling on and off through out the day so my step-dad went home instead of joining us for the Easter On Parade event. I didn’t take many photos while we were there because we were rushing a bit to be sure that we could participate in as many activities as possible before the weather wouldn’t allow us to. The children enjoyed the petting zoo, there was a variety of live entertainment and a bunch of food trucks scattered about. It’s something that I would enjoy attending again. I really love that area. It’s beautiful.
The highlight of my day was my brother and his wife also letting us know that they’re expecting another little bundle of joy. I’ll be an auntie x 2!!! For those that celebrate, I wish you a very Happy Easter, too!March 27, 2016 / Tara Lekatana / 0
